About Bill Hudson

Bill Hudson Bill Hudson comes from a family of watermen who worked the Chesapeake and Chincoteague Bays in Virginia. His inherited love of the sea is evident in his watercolors.

Having an aptitude for art as well as science and mathematics, Bill graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University in Philadelphia. He then pursued a 38-year career in aerospace while painting with oils and watercolors as a hobby. His proudest moments came, however, when he married his wife Ellie and they were blessed with eight children.

Now retired and with the children grown, Bill is enjoying a second career as a maritime artist. “For me there has always been that attraction to the shore. It is a world different from the pavements of Baltimore and Philadelphia where I grew up. The marine life, the buildings, boats, water and open skies are all unique. For an artist, maritime scenes inherently provide the necessary elements for a good painting. The water and its reflections are a needed contrast in edges, shapes, and value. And sky reflections guarantee color continuity from the top of the painting to the bottom.”

He’s been in many venues and galleries on the west coast including Beverly Hills, Laguna Beach, Carmel, and La Jolla. In addition to exhibiting, Bill was been a juror for the Festival of Arts in Laguna Beach. He has demonstrated his painting techniques at several art leagues and watercolor societies. He has authored and published the Watercolor Pocket Guide which is available from his website www.BillHudsonArt.com.

Bill is also the inventor and patent holder of the Mahl Bridge and Mahl Bridge Clamps. - tools that were introduced to the art community in 2006 by Watermen Art of which Bill is President.. Both the Mahl Bridge and Clamps are available at www.MahlBridge.com.
